At our May meeting we will be discussing a book selected by Burk:
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Herland, 1915.
Burk recommends that we try to obtain a copy of the Penguin Classics paperback “Charlotte Perkins Gilman – The Yellow Wall-Paper, Herland and Selected Writings” published in 2009 because this version has biographical information about the author which will be helpful in understanding Herland.
Burk provides the following additional information about his selection:
I have selected “Herland” a short novel written in 1915 by Charlotte Perkins Gilman as our May book. This is a work of fiction and an author of whom I had never heard till last December when there was a New Year’s party for the residents of the building where I live. A younger female tenant who has lived here almost as long as I have been here heard that I was in a book club and suggested “Herland.” Her all-female book club had just read it.
